Level Update #1
Hello everyone! We wanted to give you a quick update about our setting, Africa. Since our announcement back in August, we’ve had a few questions regarding the areas we’d portray in Bellum, so we’d like to talk about why we chose this location in the first place, as well as share some new glimpses of our first map, Highlands.
Why Africa?
During our early design stages, we wanted to cover an area in the world that had not received much attention in the past, with most games in the same category focusing in Asia and the Middle East. After some consideration, we decided we wanted to utilize the extensive biomes present in Africa.
Our environmental and level designers have done an outstanding job at building the world for Bellum, and we’d like to show off some of the map features that they’ve been working on.
Micro Terrain
In Bellum, we want to encourage tactical play at every step of gameplay. For this, we have put a lot of detail into adding micro terrain features to Highlands. Our first iteration is embankments.
These will be found all throughout the area, and will allow for more cohesive and tactical maneuvering amongst squads. Our goal is to provide players with as many terrain features as possible.
Environment Design
As a next-generation title, we want to offer players a detailed and refined experience, not only from mechanics, but also from the environment around them. Our interiors play a big part in this, and we want the players to understand the story surrounding them from it.
As this is the first pass in some of our interiors and set dressing, expect changes in detail in the future.
